Kadrr, from A to Z

For Kadrr 0.4 on Windows 10 and 11 · Updated 3 November 2026

Everything Kadrr does and how to use it: taking and marking up screenshots, copying text off the screen, recording and editing video, sharing links, and every setting and shortcut. If you are new, read Getting started and then come back for whatever you need.

01

Getting started

Install

Kadrr runs on Windows 10 and Windows 11, 64-bit. Install it from the Microsoft Store. The Store also keeps it up to date, so there is nothing else to download. ffmpeg, which Kadrr uses to record video, comes inside the app.

You do not need an account to take screenshots, mark them up, copy text, record or edit video. You only need one to upload and get a link, and the account is free.

The first run

When you start Kadrr it opens its window and puts its icon in the notification area next to the clock. If you cannot see the icon, click the ^ arrow on the taskbar; you can drag the icon out of there onto the taskbar so it is always visible.

Kadrr keeps running when you close its window. It waits in the tray so the shortcuts work from any app. To quit it completely, click the tray icon and choose Quit Kadrr.

The four keys to learn

PressTo
Ctrl+Shift+2Take a screenshot of an area or a window
Ctrl+Shift+3Start recording the screen. Press it again to stop
Ctrl+Shift+1Copy the text inside an area of the screen
Ctrl+Shift+4Open your capture history

All four work from any application and can be changed in Settings → Shortcuts.

Your first screenshot, in four steps

  1. Press Ctrl+Shift+2. The screen freezes.
  2. Drag over what you want, or click a window to take all of it.
  3. Press Enter. The picture is saved and already on your clipboard.
  4. Paste it anywhere with Ctrl+V, or press Upload in the panel that appears to get a link instead.
02

The Kadrr window and tray

The window has three tabs in its sidebar: Home, History and Settings. The version you are running is at the bottom of the sidebar. Esc or the ✕ button hides the window; Kadrr keeps running in the tray.

Home

  • Take a screenshot and Record video: the two big buttons, each showing its shortcut. While a recording runs, the second one shows the time and stops the recording when clicked.
  • Copy text: reads the text in an area of the screen. See Copy text.
  • Upload a file: pick images or videos from your computer and get links for them. You can also drop files anywhere on the window.
  • Recent captures: your last five. Clicking one copies its link if it has been uploaded, and opens History if it has not. See all opens History.
  • Status: whether you are signed in and on which plan, where uploads go, how long links last, and where captures are saved. Each line has a button that takes you to the place to change it.

When you start a capture from the Home tab, the Kadrr window gets out of the way first, so it is not in your shot.

The tray menu

Click the Kadrr icon next to the clock to open its menu. It closes when you click elsewhere or press Esc.

  • Stop recording, with the elapsed time: only while a recording is running.
  • Take a screenshot, Record video, Copy text: the same as the shortcuts shown beside them.
  • Upload a file…: choose one file. Kadrr uploads it and shows the link in the capture panel. If you are not signed in, it opens Settings instead.
  • Open Kadrr, History, Settings: open the window on that tab.
  • Quit Kadrr: closes the app. A recording that is running is finished and saved first.

The top of the menu shows the account you are signed in with, or the version if you are not signed in.

03

Screenshots

Starting a capture

Press Ctrl+Shift+2, click Take a screenshot on the Home tab, or choose it from the tray menu. The whole desktop freezes the moment you do: every monitor, exactly as it was. Menus, tooltips and hover states stay put while you choose, and what you see is exactly what ends up in the file.

A shortcut captures whatever is on screen, including the Kadrr window if you left it open. That is deliberate, for when you want it. Starting from the Home tab or the tray menu hides Kadrr's own window and menu first.

Choosing what to capture

  • Drag to draw a rectangle. Its size in pixels is shown as you go.
  • Click a window to take exactly that window. As you move the pointer, the window under it is outlined; a click adopts its edges.
  • Across monitors. All your screens act as one surface, even with different scaling, so a selection can cross the seam between two of them.

Next to the pointer, a loupe magnifies the pixels around it, with the colour of the pixel under the crosshair as a hex code and its position. It helps you land an edge on the exact pixel, and lets you read a colour off the screen.

Adjusting before you take it

Letting go of the mouse does not take the shot. The selection stays on screen so you can fix it:

  • Drag any of the eight handles to move an edge or a corner.
  • Drag inside the selection to move it.
  • Press outside it to start a new one.

Then press Enter or the Capture button beside the selection. Esc works one step at a time: the first press drops the selection, the second cancels the capture.

What happens next: the capture panel

The picture is saved as a PNG in your save folder and copied to the clipboard as an image. A small panel appears in the bottom-right corner of your main screen with a preview and its size, and these buttons:

  • Edit: opens the image editor.
  • Upload: uploads it and puts the link on the clipboard in place of the image. See Uploading and links.
  • Show in folder: opens File Explorer with the file selected.
  • ✕: closes the panel. The file stays where it is.

The panel stays until you close it or take the next capture. Drag it by the preview to move it.

Files are named the way CleanShot names them, for example Kadrr 2026-10-29 at 14.23.05.png. If a name is taken, Kadrr adds (2), (3) and so on; it never overwrites a capture.

04

Image editor

Click Edit in the capture panel, or Edit on a picture in History. The editor opens with the arrow tool ready. GIFs cannot be opened in the editor.

The tools

Every tool has a single key. Press it while the editor is open, or click the icon in the toolbar.

KeyToolHow it works
VSelectClick a mark to select it, drag to move it, Delete to remove it.
AArrowDrag from the tail to the point.
RRectangleDrag to draw a box.
OEllipseDrag to draw an oval or a circle.
LLineDrag to draw a straight line.
PFreehandDraw as with a pen.
TTextClick where the text goes and type. Enter, Esc or a click elsewhere finishes it. A thicker setting makes larger text.
NNumberEach click places the next numbered step: 1, 2, 3…
HHighlightDrag a see-through marker over text or a field.
BHideDrag over anything private, such as an email, a token or a face, to pixelate it.

Colours and thickness

Six colours: red, yellow, green, blue, white and black. Three thicknesses; [ and ] step between them without leaving the canvas. Both apply to the next thing you draw.

Undo, redo, delete

Ctrl+Z undoes, Ctrl+Shift+Z or Ctrl+Y redoes, as many steps as you like. Delete or Backspace removes the selected mark. Esc clears the selection; pressed again, it closes the editor.

Finishing

  • Copy (Ctrl+Enter) saves the marked-up picture, puts it on the clipboard and closes the editor. The capture panel comes back showing the edited picture.
  • Upload (Ctrl+U) does the same, then uploads it and puts the link on the clipboard.
The markup is saved into the capture itself. The unmarked version is not kept, and a pixelated area cannot be recovered from the file. That is what makes Hide safe to share. If you want to keep the original as well, copy the file first. Closing the editor without Copy or Upload throws the markup away.
05

Copy text from the screen

For the text you can see but cannot select: an error in a dialog, a code in a video call, a line inside someone else's screenshot.

  1. Press Ctrl+Shift+1, or choose Copy text on the Home tab or in the tray menu.
  2. Drag over the text. As soon as you let go, Kadrr reads it. There is nothing to confirm.
  3. A note shows what was copied, and the text is on your clipboard. Paste it with Ctrl+V.

Lines stay as separate lines. Small text is enlarged before it is read, which helps with dense interfaces. Nothing is saved and nothing goes into History: the point was the words, not a picture of them.

Offline, in your languages

Text is read on your computer by the recognition engine built into Windows. The image is never uploaded. It reads the languages you have installed in Windows that include text recognition; if none of them do, it reads English.

To add a language: open Windows Settings → Time & language → Language & region, add the language, and make sure its Optical character recognition feature is installed. If Kadrr says “Windows has no OCR language installed”, that is the fix.

“No text found in that area” means the engine saw no letters. Take a slightly larger area, or zoom in on the page first.

06

Screen recording

Starting a recording

  1. Press Ctrl+Shift+3, click Record video on the Home tab, or choose it from the tray menu. The overlay appears, tinted red.
  2. Drag the area to record, or click a window. Adjust it with the handles, the same way as for a screenshot. The smallest area is 16 × 16 pixels.
  3. Press Enter or Record.

A countdown appears over the middle of the area, 3 seconds by default, so you have time to move the mouse where it needs to be. The countdown is not part of the recording. Change it, or switch it off, in Settings → Recording: Off, 3, 5 or 10 seconds.

Keep a recording area on one screen. If it crosses two, Kadrr records on the screen that holds the middle of the area.

While it records

A small bar sits at the bottom centre of your main screen, showing a red dot, the elapsed time, a Pause button and a Stop button. Drag it anywhere. The bar is hidden from screen capture, so it never appears in your recording, nor in a screenshot.

  • Pause and resume to skip the part where you look for the right tab. The paused stretch is simply left out, and the result is one file.
  • Stop with the bar's button, with the same shortcut you started with (it works from any app), from the tray menu, or from the Home tab.

After you stop

The recording is saved as an MP4 in your save folder, and the capture panel shows a preview you can play. It has Edit (opens the video editor), GIF (see GIFs), Upload and Show in folder. Unlike a screenshot, a recording is not put on the clipboard.

Quitting Kadrr in the middle of a recording finishes the file and saves it.

Sound

Kadrr records your microphone, if you choose one in Settings → Recording → Microphone. The default is Silent. The sound your computer plays (system audio) is not recorded. If the chosen microphone is unplugged, Settings marks it (not found).

Quality and size

  • Frame rate: 15, 24, 30 or 60 frames per second; 30 by default. Higher is smoother, and makes larger files.
  • Cursor: recorded by default. Switch off Record the cursor too to leave it out.
  • Encoding: H.264 video in an MP4, with AAC sound. Kadrr uses an NVIDIA graphics card's video encoder when there is one, so long recordings do not load the processor, and encodes on the processor otherwise.

Length

Signed in on the Free plan, a recording stops by itself at 2 minutes, and what was recorded up to then is saved. The bar counts down the time left so the stop is no surprise. On Pro, recordings can be any length.

07

GIFs

For a README, a ticket or a chat that will not play video. There are three ways to make one:

  • The GIF button in the capture panel, right after a recording.
  • The GIF button on any recording in History.
  • The GIF format in the video editor, after cutting the recording down.

A GIF runs at 15 frames per second, is at most 960 pixels wide and has no sound. The first two ways save it next to the recording under the same name ending in .gif; the editor adds -edited. It appears in History like any other capture, and after the one-click way the capture panel shows it, ready to upload.

GIFs are large for what they hold. Keep them short: cut the recording in the video editor first, or export at a smaller size.
08

Video editor

Click Edit in the capture panel after a recording, or Edit on a recording in History. The editor works on a copy: your recording is never changed, and nothing is encoded until you press Save or Upload.

What is on screen

  • The toolbar: play, split, delete, then the tools, then undo and redo. For a drawing tool, its colours and thicknesses appear here too.
  • The options bar under it: the choices for whatever is selected, such as a clip's speed or a zoom's strength, or a hint about the current tool.
  • The picture. A label in its corner says Preview when you see the result, and Editing · whole frame while a tool or an effect is selected, so you can place things outside a crop or a zoom.
  • The timeline: the clips with their frames and, if there is sound, its waveform; under them, a lane for each effect.
  • The export bar: volume, format, size, an estimate of the result, and the Upload and Save buttons.

Playing and moving around

Space plays and pauses. Click or drag on the timeline to move the playhead. ← and → step one frame; with Shift, one second. Home and End jump to the start and the end. Zoom the timeline with Ctrl+mouse wheel or its − and + buttons; Fit shows the whole video again.

Cutting and trimming

  • S splits the clip under the playhead in two.
  • Click a clip on the timeline to select it, then press Delete. The clip is removed and the gap closes. With nothing selected, Delete removes the clip under the playhead. The last clip cannot be deleted.
  • Drag a clip's left or right edge to trim it.
  • Q cuts away everything before the playhead, W everything after it.

Speed, clip by clip

Select a clip and choose 0.5×, 1×, 1.5×, 2×, 3× or 4×. Each clip has its own speed, so you can run a loading screen at 4× and keep the part that matters as it was. The sound speeds up with it at the same pitch. All clips gives every clip the selected clip's speed.

Volume

In the export bar: Mute, 50%, 100% or 150% for the whole video. It is greyed out when the recording has no sound, and for GIFs, which have none.

Crop

Press C and drag over the part of the picture to keep. Select the crop to resize it with its handles, snap it to 16:9, 4:3, 1:1 or 9:16, or go back to Full frame. A crop applies to the whole video.

Hide a region

Press B and drag over what should not be seen, such as an email address, a token or a customer's name. It is pixelated from that moment to the end, because what needs hiding usually stays on screen. Drag the ends of its bar on the timeline to shorten it, or select it and press Whole video to cover all of it. It stays on the same moments through every cut and speed change.

Zoom

Press Z, then click the point to zoom in on, or drag over the area that should fill the frame. The view eases in, holds and eases back out; a new zoom lasts 3 seconds. Select it to choose 1.5×, 2×, 3× or 4×, and drag its bar on the timeline to move it or change its length. Two zooms cannot overlap in time.

Magnifier

Press M and click to place a round lens over a small detail, such as an error under a field, while the rest of the screen stays in view. Drag instead of clicking to set its size. Select it to choose 1.5×, 2× or 3× and a size of S, M or L.

Arrows, text and numbers

The drawing tools from the image editor, on video: Arrow A, Rectangle R, Ellipse O, Text T, Number N, Highlight H and Freehand P, with the same six colours and three thicknesses. Each one appears at the playhead and stays up for 3 seconds; drag its bar on the timeline to move it or keep it up longer. Select it to change its colour or remove it.

Selecting, and getting out of a tool

V is Select and move: click an effect on the picture or on the timeline to select it, drag to move it, and use its handles to resize it. Pressing a tool's key a second time goes back to Select. Esc also steps back: from a tool to Select, then out of the selection, then out of the editor.

Undo and redo work as in the image editor: Ctrl+Z, and Ctrl+Y or Ctrl+Shift+Z.

Saving and exporting

  • Format: MP4 or GIF.
  • Size: Original, or 1080p, 720p or 480p when the video is larger than that. A GIF is also capped at 960 pixels wide.
  • Next to the buttons, the result's size in pixels, its length and an estimate of the file size, so a file over your plan's upload limit is no surprise.
  • Save (Ctrl+Enter) writes a new file next to the recording, named with -edited, such as Kadrr 2026-10-29 at 14.23.05-edited.mp4.
  • Upload (Ctrl+U) saves the same file, then uploads it and copies the link. Not signed in? The file is saved anyway and Settings opens so you can sign in.

A progress bar shows the export. Cancel or Esc stops it. The result goes into History and the capture panel, like any capture.

Closing the editor with unsaved changes asks first: the first ✕ or Esc shows a warning, and pressing again within a couple of seconds throws the changes away.
09

Uploading and links

Uploading turns a capture into a short kadrr.cc link that anyone can open in a browser. You need to be signed in; if you are not, Kadrr says “Sign in to upload” and opens Settings.

Ways to upload

  • Upload in the capture panel, right after a capture.
  • Upload in either editor (Ctrl+U), which saves your edits first.
  • The upload button on a tile in History.
  • Drag and drop files onto the Kadrr window, on any tab. Several at once is fine.
  • Upload a file on the Home tab, or Upload a file… in the tray menu, to pick files from your computer.

Kadrr uploads PNG, JPEG, GIF and WebP images and MP4 and WebM videos, up to your plan's file size limit. A file from elsewhere on your computer is copied into your save folder first and added to History, so the original is never touched.

When the upload finishes, the link is already on your clipboard, in place of the image. There is no dialog and no copy button to find; just paste it. The capture panel shows the link, and the capture gets a LINK badge in History. When you upload several files at once, all their links are copied, one per line.

A link looks like kadrr.cc/t/Qm7aZ2fd or kadrr.cc/p/a7Qm3xKp. /t/ means temporary and /p/ means permanent. The letters are random and cannot practically be guessed.

A clean page with your image, or your video ready to play, and two buttons: Copy link and Download. They need no app and no account. The page speaks English, or Azerbaijani if their browser asks for it. Pasted into Slack, Teams, Discord or most other chat apps, the link unfurls with a preview; a video's preview is a still from it.

How long links last

On Free, an uploaded file is deleted 30 days after upload and its link then shows “This link has expired or never existed”. Your own copy on your computer is not affected. On Pro, switch on Make links permanent and links stay until you delete them.

Direct links Pro

By default a link opens the page described above. With Copy a direct link to the file switched on, the link points at the image or video itself. That is what you want in an <img> tag, a Markdown file, or a tool that expects to receive the file rather than a page.

Anyone who has the link. A link you share can be passed on, so do not upload anything you would not want seen by someone holding it. Use Hide in the image editor, or Hide a region in the video editor, on anything private before you upload.

Taking a link down

Delete the upload on your account page, under Uploads. The file is removed from storage and the link stops working at once.

Deleting a capture in History deletes the file on your computer only. The uploaded copy stays online until it expires or you delete it on the account page.
10

History

Every screenshot, recording, GIF and uploaded file, newest first. Open it with Ctrl+Shift+4, the History tab, See all on Home, or the tray menu.

Finding things

Filter by All, Images, Videos or Uploaded. Each tile shows when it was taken, its size in pixels (for pictures) and its file size, with a VIDEO badge on recordings and a LINK badge on anything uploaded.

What you can do with a capture

Point at a tile to see its buttons:

  • Copy to clipboard: puts a picture on the clipboard again.
  • Edit: opens the image editor or the video editor. Not available for GIFs.
  • GIF: on recordings, saves a GIF of it.
  • Copy the link if it has been uploaded, or Upload if it has not.
  • Show in folder: opens File Explorer with the file selected.
  • Delete: removes it from History and deletes the file from your computer. An uploaded copy is not deleted; see Taking a link down.

Restore from the link

If a file was deleted or moved outside Kadrr, its tile is dimmed. If it had been uploaded and the link still works, Restore downloads it back to where it was.

The first time you open History, Kadrr adds what is already in your save folder, so it is not empty if you were capturing before. History belongs to this computer and is not synced between computers. Copied text is never added to it.

11

Account and sign-in

An account is free, and only needed for uploading. It gives your links a home and lets you see and delete your uploads from any browser. There are no passwords: you sign in with a link sent to your email.

Signing in from the app

  1. In Kadrr, open Settings → General and press Sign in. Your browser opens account.kadrr.cc, and the button says Waiting for the browser…
  2. If you are not signed in on the website yet, type your email address. Open the email from Kadrr <no-reply@kadrr.cc>, click its link and press Sign in. A new address gets its account from that same link.
  3. The page asks “Let Kadrr in?”, showing your computer's name and your email. Press Allow.
  4. The browser hands back to Kadrr, which now shows your email and your plan. You can close the browser tab.

Do this on the computer Kadrr runs on: the hand-back goes to that computer only, so allowing it from a phone signs nothing in. Kadrr waits about 3 minutes for the browser; press Sign in again if it times out.

If the browser cannot reach Kadrr, which can happen behind some proxies or security software, the page stays open. Under “Still here?” it shows a code. Paste the code into Have a code? in Settings → General and press Use code.

  • A link works once and for 15 minutes.
  • Opening it shows a page with a Sign in button, and only that button uses the link. Email security scanners that open every link therefore cannot use yours up.
  • One address can be sent 5 links an hour. If you asked several times, use the newest email.
  • Sign-in links cannot be requested over Tor.

The account page

At account.kadrr.cc/account, or Account page in Settings:

  • Overview: your plan; uploads this month against your limit, how many are left, and the date it resets (the 1st of each month); storage used; and how many links are kept and how many are expiring.
  • Activity: uploads per day over the last 30 days.
  • Uploads: everything you have uploaded, filtered by All, Images, Recordings, Kept or Expiring. Delete any of them here.
  • Devices: every computer signed in to your account, with when it was last used and how much it uploaded. Rename one, Revoke one to stop it uploading, or Sign out everywhere.
  • Team, on Business: the people on the team, invitations waiting, and the number of seats. See Business.
  • Plans: what Free, Pro and Business include.

Signing out

Settings → General → Sign out makes Kadrr forget the sign-in on this computer. To cut off a computer you no longer have, revoke it under Devices on the account page.

Deleting your account

Write to hello@itahir.com from the address you sign in with. The account and all of its uploads are deleted within 30 days.

The monthly count starts again on the 1st. Kadrr checks your plan each time you open Settings, so a change shows up without signing out and in again. Pro settings are visible on Free with a Pro badge and an Upgrade to Pro link, so you can see what they do.

Price

Pro is $99 a year, which is $8.25 a month, billed once a year. An account that has never had Pro pays $36 for its first year, which is $3 a month. After that it renews at $99 a year.

Business is $5 a seat a month, billed once a year, from 5 seats: $25 a month, or $300 a year. A team's first year is 64% off: $108 for five seats, $9 a month, and $1.80 a month for each seat after the fifth. Seats added during the first year get the same discount; from the renewal on, every seat is $60 a year.

Getting Pro

  1. Open your account page, or press Upgrade to Pro in Kadrr's Settings, which opens it.
  2. Under Plan, press Upgrade to Pro. You are taken to Stripe's payment page, which shows the amount before you pay.
  3. Pay with your card. You come back to the account page, which now shows Pro and the date it renews.

Kadrr picks up the new plan the next time you open Settings. The card is handled by Stripe: it never reaches Kadrr. Receipts come by email from Stripe.

Business for a team

Business is Pro for everyone on a team, paid by one person, the owner, on one invoice. Each member signs in with their own account. Their uploads, links and computers stay their own: the owner sees who is on the team, not what they upload.

  1. Buy it. On the account page, under Plan, choose the number of seats (5 or more) and press Get Business. Stripe's page shows the total, and the number can still be changed there. The owner holds one of the seats.
  2. Invite people. Under Team, type someone's email and press Send invitation. They get an email from Kadrr; a reply to it reaches you. A waiting invitation holds a seat, and Withdraw frees it.
  3. They join. The invited person signs in at account.kadrr.cc with that same address, which makes an account if they have none, and presses Join team. Their account has Pro's limits from their next upload, and Kadrr shows it the next time they open Settings.

Changing the number of seats. Under Team, press Change seats, type the new number and press See the price. The page shows Stripe's exact figure before anything happens. An added seat is charged for the rest of the year, at once; a removed one is credited against the next renewal. There can't be fewer seats than five, or than the people on the team and invited.

Removing someone, or leaving. The owner can Remove a member under Team; a member can Leave team on their own account page. Either way the account goes back to its own plan, which is Free unless it pays for Pro, and the seat is free again. An account is on one team at a time.

If you pay for Pro yourself and join a team, or buy Business, turn off Pro's renewal first under Manage subscription, so you aren't paying twice. Pro stays until its year ends; the team covers you from the day you join.

Changing the card, invoices, cancelling

On the account page, under Plan, press Manage subscription. Stripe's page opens, where you can change the card, download invoices, or cancel. After you cancel, nothing more is charged, and the plan stays until the end of the year you paid for. Then a Pro account moves to Free, and on Business every member moves to their own plan.

If a renewal cannot be charged, Stripe tries the card again over the following days and the account page asks you to update it. The plan carries on for 7 days meanwhile.

Refunds

Within 14 days of a payment, the first one or a yearly renewal, you can have it refunded in full. Write to hello@itahir.com from the address you sign in with. That includes the charge for seats added to a Business team. The plan ends when the refund of a yearly payment is made. The details are in the terms.

When Pro or Business ends

Uploads you made as permanent stay, with their links. New uploads follow your own plan's limits again, Free unless you pay for Pro, including deletion after 30 days, and Pro settings such as your own bucket stop being used. The same happens when you leave a team or are removed from one.

Your own bucket Pro

On Pro, uploaded files can be written to an S3-compatible bucket of your own, such as Cloudflare R2 or Amazon S3, so they stay on your infrastructure. Uploads still go through Kadrr, which applies your plan and makes the link. The link page stays on kadrr.cc, and the image or video on it loads straight from your bucket's public domain.

Setting it up with Cloudflare R2

  1. In Cloudflare, create an R2 bucket.
  2. Give it public access, through a custom domain or its r2.dev address. That address is your public file domain.
  3. Create an R2 API token with Object Read & Write permission, limited to this one bucket. Note its Access Key ID and Secret Access Key.
  4. In Kadrr, open Settings → Advanced and set Where uploads go to My own bucket.
  5. Fill in the R2 / S3 address (https://<account-id>.r2.cloudflarestorage.com), the Bucket name, the Access key ID, the Secret access key and the Public file domain.
  6. Press Test the connection. It uploads a 2 × 2 test image and deletes it, then reports the time it took, which bucket was used, and whether the test file was removed.

Good to know

  • Until the address, bucket, key and secret are all filled in, uploads go to Kadrr's cloud.
  • The address must use https:// and point at a public host.
  • The keys are kept in Kadrr's settings on your computer. They travel over HTTPS with each upload, and our server uses them for that upload only, without storing them.
  • Switching back to Kadrr cloud keeps the fields filled in for later.
  • Temporary files are stored under t/ and permanent ones under p/. Kadrr's own storage deletes t/ after 30 days; in your bucket nothing is deleted unless you add a lifecycle rule for t/.
  • Use a token limited to the one bucket, so that the key on your computer cannot touch anything else.

Kadrr's own data, meaning settings, History, your sign-in and the log, lives in the app's data folder, which Windows manages for apps from the Microsoft Store. The easy way to reach the log is Settings → Advanced → Log file → Open.

Privacy in short

  • Nothing you capture leaves your computer until you upload it.
  • Copying text is done by Windows, on your computer. The image is not sent anywhere.
  • Kadrr has no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of how you use the app.
  • When you sign in, we keep your email, your plan, the devices you signed in on and the files you upload, so that uploading and the account page work.
  • Anyone with a link can see that upload. Delete it from the account page when it should go.

The full text is in the privacy policy and the terms.

Updates and uninstalling

Updates

The Microsoft Store updates Kadrr on its own. To check right away, open the Store, go to Library and press Get updates. The version you are running is at the bottom of the Kadrr window's sidebar.

Uninstalling

Right-click Kadrr in the Start menu and choose Uninstall, or use Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps. This removes the app with its settings, History and sign-in. Your captures stay in your save folder, and your account and uploads stay online until you delete them.

Troubleshooting

A shortcut does nothing

Check that Kadrr is running: its icon should be next to the clock. Then open Settings → Shortcuts. If it says a shortcut is not available, another app has taken that combination; click the shortcut and choose a different one.

The Kadrr window is in my screenshot

A shortcut captures what is on screen, Kadrr included. Hide the window first with Esc, or start the capture from the Home tab, which steps the window aside for you.

“ffmpeg not found”, or recording does not start

ffmpeg comes inside the Store app, so this means the installation is damaged. Open Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps → Kadrr → Advanced options and press Repair, or reinstall Kadrr from the Store. If it still fails, send us the log file.

My recording has no sound

Choose a microphone in Settings → Recording; the default is Silent. Kadrr records the microphone only, not the sound the computer plays. A microphone marked (not found) is unplugged or was renamed.

The recording stopped by itself after 2 minutes

That is the Free plan's recording length. What was recorded up to then is saved. The bar shows the time left while you record.

Recordings are too big

Record a smaller area, or lower the frame rate in Settings → Recording. In the video editor, cut what is not needed and export at 720p or 480p; the estimate next to Save shows the result's size before you export.

Copy text says Windows has no OCR language

Open Windows Settings → Time & language → Language & region, add a language or open its options, and install Optical character recognition. See Offline, in your languages.

Copy text found nothing

Select a slightly larger area that holds whole words, or zoom in on the page first; very small or very stylised text is hard to read.

“Sign in to upload”

Uploading needs a free account. Open Settings → General and press Sign in. See Signing in from the app.

“That file is larger than your plan allows”

Free uploads are up to 50 MB and Pro up to 256 MB. Open the recording in the video editor, cut it down or export it at a smaller size, and upload the result.

The sign-in email did not arrive

Look in spam and in tabs such as Promotions, and check the address you typed. Work email can hold messages for a few minutes. You can ask for a new link, up to 5 an hour; each one works once, for 15 minutes, so use the newest. When you open it, press the Sign in button on the page.

The browser did not hand back to Kadrr

Open “Still here?” on the page in the browser, copy the code, and paste it into Have a code? in Settings → General.

A link stopped working

On Free, uploads are deleted after 30 days. Your local copy is still in your save folder and in History; upload it again for a new link.

Kadrr does not start with Windows

Switch on Start Kadrr when I sign in to Windows in Settings → General. If the switch will not stay on, Kadrr was turned off in Task Manager → Startup apps, and Windows only lets you turn it back on there.

My captures are not in the folder I chose

If the folder was unavailable, for example on a drive that was unplugged, Kadrr saved to the default folder instead. The Home tab's status panel shows where captures are going.

The recording bar is missing from my screenshot

That is on purpose. The bar and the countdown are hidden from screen capture so they never end up in a recording.

Something else

Open Settings → Advanced → Log file, and send kadrr.log to hello@itahir.com with a line about what you did and what happened.
